Establish the controlled quote basis

Issue the packaging specification by SKU and revision. A controlled matrix may cover several SKUs only when shared and SKU-specific requirements are unambiguous.

The RFQ header should state:

Draft measurable shipping-protection clauses

Begin the packing drawing with the exact product and accessory state. Do not rely on a reference photograph to establish blade position, sheath seating, clip orientation, accessory placement, or permitted movement.

A buyer may adapt clauses such as these to the actual SKU and route:

Resolve package-level ambiguities

Unit pack

Require usable internal dimensions as well as external dimensions. State dimension orientation, tolerances, measurement points, and whether the pack is measured assembled, closed, and loaded. Separate net product mass from gross packed-unit mass.

Identify the structural style, insert geometry, restraint points, closure, artwork revision, and barcode field. A reference image may control appearance, but it should not replace the dimensional drawing, construction specification, or acceptance criteria.

Inner pack

If the buyer nominates a packaging-test standard or distribution procedure, cite the current applicable edition in the controlled RFQ. Distinguish the standard's stated requirements from buyer-selected severity, package configuration, sample basis, and pass criteria. Label a supplier's internal method as company practice rather than conformity to a named standard. Do not describe a package-test result as company certification, and do not imply certification without a current applicable document.

Require written buyer approval before changing:
